Chaperone
A chaperone is an adult acting as an informal third party. We understand that there are various reasons why a patient may wish to be accompanied during assessment or treatment.
For example:
- Adults accompanying child patients (under 18s).
- For moral support from family member, friend or carer.
- Assistance with dressing and undressing.
- Help in remembering details of discussions and exercises.
- For help with interpretation from language difficulties or hearing impairment.
LG Physiotherapy, Ultrasound & Injection Clinic welcome their patients’ to be accompanied/have a chaperone during an examination, procedure or treatment. Unfortunately, a chaperone cannot be provided by the clinic.
Consent
Consent is the voluntary agreement given by a person to allow something to happen to them, and/or to be done to them, and/or to allow their participation. It is a fundamental right that every adult with capacity has the absolute right to determine what happens to their own body (Charted Society of Physiotherapy 2022).
We will make every effort to help you to fully understand the diagnosis, the recommended procedures and any treatment that may be involved.
No objective assessment or treatment will begin unless you have given your consent verbally.
Written consent is required for any forms of invasive treatment which includes acupuncture and injection therapy.
You are free to withdraw your consent for treatment at any time and do not need to provide a reason. Treatment will immediately cease should you withdraw your consent.
